PRAGUE (Dow Jones)--Slovak annual inflation accelerated to 4.0% in February from 3.8% in January due to larger gains in food, transport and healthcare service prices, data released by the Slovak Statistics Office, or SUSR, showed Thursday.

The figure was slightly above market forecasts of an inflation rate of 3.9%, based on a Dow Jones Newswires poll of six economists.

On the month, consumer prices rose 0.4% in February, compared with a month-on-month rise of 1.3% in January.

Price growth for food and nonalcoholic beverages was 8.2% on the year in February, after an 8.0% annual increase in January.

Transport costs rose 5.2% on the year in February, compared with a 4.2% annual rise the previous month.

Healthcare services prices rose 3.7% on the year in February, compared with a 3.1% annual rise in January.
